Mushrooms in the News: 01-25-2021

Christine Palumbo, MBA, RND, FAND suggested vitamin C, vitamin D and Zinc as nutrients to support immunity in Chicago Parent magazine. She detailed the benefits for each nutrient and suggested food sources. For vitamin D, she explained that it can be “found in specially labelled mushrooms.” Furthermore, she advised to “check the Nutrition Facts label to verify.”

Mushrooms landed first on The Produce Moms’ list of 21 “must-try produce” items for this year. “Mushrooms are packed with flavor, full of texture, and incredibly versatile. [They naturally contain fiber], low in calories, fat-free, cholesterol-free, gluten-free, low in sodium, and rich in vitamin B,” the article explained.

The Council’s “Feed Your Immune System” campaign was shared by the trades, including Perishable News, Produce Blue Book, The Packer and FreshPlaza. Additionally, the Council’s call for nominees can be found on Perishable News and The Packer.
