Contest Terms and Conditions


The 2024 Kids Eat Mushrooms Too! Recipe Contest (“Contest”) is open to food service professionals working in child care settings or K-12 schools located in the 50 United States and D.C.


The contest is sponsored by Mushrooms in Schools, Mushroom Council, 200 NE Missouri Road, Suite 200, Lee’s Summit, MO 64086 (“Sponsor”).


This Promotion is open only to legal residents of the 50 United States and D.C., who are 21 years of age or older as of the Contest start date. Void in Puerto Rico and where prohibited.


A complete entry (“Submission”) will consist of:

  • Completed entry form
  • The number of servings, serving size, recipe ingredients and quantities, preparation instructions, meal components, and a photo of the finished recipe. 
  • The recipe does not need to be standardized or nutritionally analyzed.

Entries that do not meet all of the entry requirements will be disqualified.

While not required, it is strongly recommended that your recipe is served or tested with students prior to entering it into the contest. Bonus points will be awarded to entries demonstrating this!

Entries must be submitted online at You may enter 1 recipe per school/location per contest (i.e. you may enter recipes in both the child care and K-12 contests). You may submit multiple recipes per district. Incomplete entries will not be accepted.


Child Care Contest: Entry period from April 30, 2024 – June 30, 2024. Deadline for entry is 11:59 pm Eastern Time on Sunday, June 30, 2024. Winners will be notified no later than Friday, August 9, 2024.

K-12 Contest: Entry period from July 30, 2024 – September 30, 2024. Deadline for entry is 11:59 pm Eastern Time on Monday, September 30, 2024. Winners will be notified no later than Friday, November 8, 2024.

Winners will be posted on and on Mushrooms in Schools social media platforms.


The recipe must include fresh mushrooms grown in the 50 United States and D.C.


By making a Submission, you represent and warrant that: (a) the Submission is an original work created solely by you; (b) you own all rights to the Submission and have obtained any necessary third-party clearances; (c) the Submission complies with all requirements of these Official Rules; and (d) you understand that other Entrants may submit original Submissions that are substantially similar to yours in content and that you shall not have any claim against Sponsor arising out of any such similarity.


All eligible entries will be reviewed by Mushrooms in Schools and/or its agents. All decisions are final, binding, and non-disputable.

Entries will be judged on the following criteria:

  • Deliciousness and flavor (10 points)
  • Plate appeal (10 points)
  • Use of fresh mushrooms (10 points)
  • Creativity and innovation with mushrooms (5 points)
  • Ease of prep and service (5 points)
  • Nutritiousness (5 points)
  • Tested with students (10 bonus points)


Child Care Contest

  • First Place Grand Prize: Registration for the National CACFP Annual Conference or National Head Start Conference (winner’s choice) in 2025
  • Second Place Prize: Two Mushroom Grow Kits and Five Mushroom T-Shirts 
  • Third Place Prize: Three Mushroom T-Shirts and Three Mushroom Sunglasses 

K-12 Contest

  • First Place Grand Prize: Registration for the School Nutrition Association’s Annual National Conference in 2025
  • Second Place Prize: Two Mushroom Grow Kits and Five Mushroom T-Shirts 
  • Third Place Prize: Three Mushroom T-Shirts and Three Mushroom Sunglasses 

All entrants who submit a complete and eligible entry will be entered into a raffle to win one of five $20 Starbucks Gift Cards.

All costs, taxes, fees, and expenses associated with any element of the Prize not specifically addressed above are the sole responsibility of the Prize Winner. All federal, state and local taxes on the Prize are the Prize Winner’s responsibility.

Prize cannot be transferred or substituted except at Sponsor’s sole discretion. Sponsor reserves the right to substitute the Prize, or portions thereof, with a prize of equal or greater value. 


The Prize Winners may be required to provide an appropriate mailing address within five (5) days of issuance of Prize notification. If Sponsor is unable to contact a Prize Winner within three (3) days from first notification attempt, if a Prize Winner fails to complete and return all requested forms or fails to provide any required proof of eligibility (in Sponsor’s sole discretion) by the specified date or if a Prize Winner fails to comply with any of the requirements, his/her Prize will be forfeited and an alternate prospective winner shall be selected.

The Prize Winners will be notified by email. Prize Winners shall obtain a prize within a month of submitting an appropriate mailing address. The Sponsor reserves the right to delay the prize mailing due to unforeseen circumstances or anything listed in the Prize Conditions requirements.


By submitting an entry, each entrant grants Mushrooms in Schools non-exclusive rights to use the information and photos included in the entry and any resulting prize information for advertising and promotional purposes.

Mushrooms and Schools and its growers, processors, members, board, staff, and respective partners are not responsible for lost, late, incomplete, stolen, inaccurate, misdirected, or undelivered entry materials; or errors or problems of any kind in connection with this Contest.


In connection with the Promotion entry process, Sponsor will be collecting personal data about entrants on the Website, in accordance with its privacy policy.  Please review Sponsor’s privacy policy located at: By participating in the Promotion, you hereby agree to Sponsor’s collection and usage of your personal information and acknowledge that you have read and accepted Sponsor’s privacy policy.  When you enter at the Website, you may be asked to consent to receive promotional emails and reminders for upcoming promotions and information about Sponsor. Consenting to receive such e-mails is optional. Except where prohibited, participation in the Promotion constitutes your consent to Sponsor’s use of your Submission, name, likeness, entry, and state of residence for promotional purposes in any and all media, including the internet, without further payment, notification, permission or other consideration, except where prohibited by law.
