Mushrooms in the News: 01-23-2023

Mushrooms continued to be highlighted as an ideal alternative in the vegan and vegetarian space amongst consumers. Ina Garten in the popular celebrity-focused news site Showbiz Cheatsheet shared 10 Best Vegetarian Dishes to Start Your New Year off Right, and her savory Portobello Mushroom Lasagna made the list at number four. Richa Hingle, an award-winning recipe developer, blogger, and photographer behind Vegan Richa also highlighted a vegan drunken noodle-inspired one-pot meal using mushrooms that’s ready in 30 minutes. VegNews – one of the most popular vegetarian foodie sites – featured a lengthy “The Benefits of Mushrooms, Plus 10 Vegan Mushroom Recipes” story, noting “those who claim they don’t like mushrooms have a myriad of health reasons to change their minds. The mighty shroom carries a heavy load of nutritional and wellness benefits, and just like tofu, it can be prepared in an infinite number of ways.”

Supermarket Perimeter highlighted mushrooms as a top 10 flavor trend in 2023 featuring research from Datassential. The trend article specifically calls out consumers’ interest to return to earthy flavors in 2023.
