USDA Announces Mushroom Council Appointments (2019-2021 term)

WASHINGTON, Dec. 27, 2018–U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue today announced the appointment of three members to serve on the Mushroom Council. The appointees will serve three-year terms from Jan. 1, 2019, to Dec. 31, 2021.
Members appointed are:

  • Sonya Beltran, Kennett Square, Pa., Representing Region 2
  • Meghan Klotzbach, West Grove, Pa., Representing Region 2
  • Emily Bettencourt, Morgan Hill, Calif. Representing Region 3

Open Positions on the Council (2020-2022 term):
A call for nominations will be sent on or about February 1, 2019 for three open positions on the Council for the 2020-2022 term.

  • Region 1 (All states except CA & PA) – one open position
  • Region 2 (PA) – one open position
  • Region 3 (CA) – one open position

Mushroom growers have ideas, skills, experiences and perspectives that would benefit the industry; be a voice for your industry by becoming part of the Council.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Mushroom Council encourage all eligible producers, including women, minorities and individuals with disabilities to participate and seek nomination.

Exemption Applications: The exemption applications for the 2019 calendar year have been mailed to those who are currently exempt. If you do not receive an application, please email [email protected]

Council Meeting: The next Council meeting will be held on February 14, 2019 in Orlando, FL. If you would like to attend, please let us know so we can make sure you are accommodated.

Growth rate seems to have slowed some for both domestic and imports…BUT note that the shipments for the last 6 out of 9 months for both domestic & imports set new highs, including the last 3 months; July-Sept.

  • USDA has reinstated the bulk 40 pounds case of IQF mushrooms for further processing and central kitchens.
